We talked about some of the community fundraisers and assistance that the Central Valley Raider Nation Wrecking Crew has given. How the group started with just the love of their football team and wanting to help their community. They have done many collection events including backpacks for kids starting school, helping the homeless with supplies like socks, gloves, deodorant, tooth brushes and more. They have plans to do baskets to assist impoverished folks in the community with thanksgiving meals and will be doing a toy drive during the holidays for their local community. We had a chance to talk to Cindy<\/span><\/span> Dupuis aka Side Car Cindy & Bee Coulson from the Lost Girls Motorcycle Club. Also, from the Kaweah Breast Center Carissa Pratts. Cindy & Bee gave us all the details about their upcoming Breast Cancer Ride which is happening October 3rd<\/sup>. They are in their 17th<\/sup> year. Last year, they broke attendance records and this year, they hoping to do that again. They are having a women’s and men’s ride, plus they’re encouraging everyone to wear pink Tutu’s for a prize. Had a chance to catch up with Deanna Saldana the Resource Development director for Habitat for Humanity of Tulare Kings County. They are getting ready to swing hammer and build in Hanford on July 27th. <\/span><\/p>\n\n

Thursday evening, July 2nd, several Habitat staff, board members and committee members gathered at the Hanford ReStore to surprise Victor Grey and Danielle Solorio, Habitat’s next homeowner partners. They have joined the more than 70 families who have partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Tulare\/Kings Counties and they will put in 500 hours of sweat equity building their forever home in Hanford.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Like so many families, Victor and Danielle have been working hard to keep a decent home, but have been living in overcrowded conditions and spending more than 50% of their income to rent. Raising one child of their own and fostering two more has become very challenging.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Habitat homeowners pay an affordable monthly mortgage that does not exceed 1\/3 of their income, including taxes and insurance. These payments then support future projects and help even more families in the community.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

They will be “going down the rabbit hole” at the Wyndham Hotel to celebrate 15 years of fundraising with one of the most fun and unique events in the Central Valley. The event has raised more than half a million dollars to support decent and affordable housing in Tulare and Kings Counties.<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Habitat for Humanity builds strength, stability and self-reliance by working with families to build or improve a place that they can call home. With the help of many, Habitat has given a hand up to more than 400 local families.  Habitat supports low-income families as they build assets, reduce dependence on other forms of social assistance and break the cycle of poverty.<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

We talked to Visalia Veterans Committee Chairman Daniel Kelley. They are working on the veteran’s mural restoration. In particular the World War II Veteran’s mural which has much needed repairs. And with those repairs come big expenses. They are asking the public’s assistance in this big restoration project. Plus there are many volunteer opportunities. You can drive by and we’ll be taking donations for the Central Valley Honor Flight. This will help them continue to send our local Veterans back to Washington DC to see their monuments. Pam Montgomery spoke to us about the Lost Girls Breast Cancer Fund and how many people is has helped and continues to help as a result of the Lost Girls Breast Cancer Motorcycle run that is held each year to help many in our community who are uninsured or under insured receive mammograms or other medical supplies while being treated for cancer. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Sidecar Cindy spoke of losing co-found Kat and that the Lost Girls Breast Cancer Run will be dedicated to Kat. They are asking Motorcyclist’s locally as well as folks who would like to follow in their car to join them for the ride this year. 15th Annual Lost Girls' Breast Cancer Ride is October 6th<\/sup> and begins at the Kaweah Delta Breast Center 4949 W.
