Kenny Chesney Trusts His Gut

Kenny Chesney

When Kenny Chesney was on the Today show, he did one of their Backstage Pass Q&A sessions. And the very first question has him talking about how he chooses songs. "Gut feeling," he admits. "I have to know that it's going to be relatable to some extent. And the more relatable, the better."

That is something Chesney has always been very good at: the relating. He said that songs are powerful because "they make people laugh, they make them cry, they make them remember someone, they make them fall in love." It's hard to argue with those reasons when I think of "Out Last Night," "There Goes My Life," "Who You'd Be Today" and "Me and You," respectively.

And at the end, he says that's exactly why he loves his job so much. "The human emotion that comes from being a songwriter and from recording a great song makes me love what I do."
